Mindfulness has become a hot research topic but has been dogged by questions concerning its conceptualization, consequences, and application to real world issues.

This presentation will address 5 important questions in the study and application of mindfulness:

(1) What is mindfulness and what are its boundaries or distinguishing features?

(2) What processes help to account for the mental and physical health benefits of mindfulness?

(3) Can the beneficial effects of mindfulness training be sustained over time?

(4) Can the cultivation of mindfulness be problematic for some people or for some conditions?

(5) Can mindfulness training enhance normative functioning or help to prevent mental health problems in academic or work settings?

Time reserved for a lively discussion about mindfulness, its training, and its effects.
